ABSTRACT

One decade later, Mijnheer et al. (1987) discussed the clinical observations of normal tissue reactions. ese authors concluded that an increase in the absorbed dose of ±7% can result in observable and unacceptable normal tissue complication probabilities. If information from one radiotherapy department is transferred to another, unacceptable risks are involved if the overall uncertainty in the absorbed dose is larger than this ±7%. According to the authors, this value should be interpreted as twice the standard deviation of the absorbed dose. erefore, they concluded that a total uncertainty of ±3.5% (1 SD) in the absorbed dose at the dose specication point is desirable and should be strived for in routine clinical practice (Mijnheer et al. 1987).
