ABSTRACT

The present study investigated the self-reported technology, multimedia, and communication skills of pre-service teachers in relation to the characteristics of millennial generation that have been identified in the literature. A new set of technology characteristics of Generation Y emerged. This technological sophistication includes necessary ownership of computers; widespread facility with electronic communication such as cell phones, texting, IM, email, and social networking; word processing and conducting Internet research as basic skills sets; and competency with complex multimedia applications such as digital still photography and digital video. The need for teacher education programs to take into account the technological sophistication of millennials when preparing future teachers is discussed.
