ABSTRACT
Nowadays, cancer is one of the main human causes of death worldwide. In 2007, 7.9 million deaths were due to this disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 84 million people will die in the 10 year period from 2005 to 2015 due to cancer (IARC, 2008). In Mexico, from 1922 to 2001, the increase in the cancer-related grew from 0.6 to 13.1% of all the deaths occurring in the overall population (Kuri et al., 2010). Cancer types vary from one country to another, and specialists estimate that if current tendencies are maintained, the rate of incidence will rise all over the world. Since the incidence of most cancers increases with age, these Figures are going to rise if life expectancy continues to increase.
