(OSD) may affect every single component of the functional unit. The wider the affected area, the more diffi cult is the treatment and the reconstruction procedures. The steps in the treatment must be orientated to provide better conditions to the cornea. To achieve this homeostasis is vital for the maintenance of good corneal epithelium, which is needed to keep corneal clarity and the optical function.
