ABSTRACT

Duplications of the alimentary tract have also been termed giant diverticula, enterogenous cysts, ileum duplex, and inclusion cysts. Calder described the first case in 1733. Ladd introduced the term ‘duplications of the alimentary tract’ in 1937. He also listed a set of three criteria for the diagnosis: (1) the presence of a well-developed coat of smooth muscle; (2) epithelial lining that represents some part of the alimentary tract; and (3) an intimate attachment to some part of the alimentary tract.
