The definition of surveillance in the context of healthcare-associated infection is the ongoing systematic collection and analysis of data about a disease (or organism) that can lead to action being taken to control or prevent the disease.
The first step towards solving a problem is recognizing it, and surveillance provides this first step. Surveillance will then be beneficial in the following ways.
