ABSTRACT
Breast cancer affects about one in nine women in the Western world. Consequently, there has been considerable interest in developing strategies to prevent breast cancer. The model of endocrine promotion of breast cancer, in which oestrogen is able to activate the development of a single transformed cell into a clinical cancer, offers an opportunity for chemoprevention by use of antioestrogens, such as tamoxifen.
