ABSTRACT
It is important to distinguish acute otitis media (AOM) from otitis media with effusion (OME or colloquially known as ‘glue ear’); the latter being a chronic condition of middle ear fluid accumulation without signs of acute inflammation. Both are most common in early childhood and both may cause conductive hearing loss in the affected ear.
