ABSTRACT

Soft-tissue resections do not require the extensive reconstruction of osseous pelvic tumors but are still a surgical challenge, especially when located inside the pelvis. Reconstruction choices following osseous pelvic resections include: no reconstruction (i.e. a ‘flail’ pelvis), iliofemoral or ischiofemoral arthrodesis, or arthroplasty with or without pelvic allograft. Pelvic allograft reconstruction can give excellent function, but must be considered carefully regarding adequate tumor margins and the risk of orthopaedic problems following reconstruction (Figure 9c.3).
