ABSTRACT

First and foremost, know your rights and what resources are available to you as you live life after cancer. Survivors of childhood cancer in the population now run into the hundreds of thousands. It is important to network with other survivors in your locality and, with the advent of the Internet, beyond. You can find other survivors through local parents groups, survivor groups and referrals from your hospital and hospital programs. You probably will find that other survivors have fought through to find solutions to the problems you may encounter, both common and unique. We need to rely on each, other than just to get through treatment, if we want to lead successful and content lives. It is our experience that survivors are more than happy to share the lessons they have learned and the information provided in this subchapter is an excellent place to start. The more networking undertaken, the richer the base of information and assistance can be available to survivors.
