ABSTRACT

Hyoscine is an antimuscarinic (anticholinergic) drug used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, abdominal cramping and motion sickness. It also has a role in reducing respiratory and gastric secretions in palliative and preoperative care. Unfortunately, since the actions of hyoscine are not selective, it has a large side-effect profile, which includes dry mouth, blurred vision, photophobia (secondary to pupil dilatation), urinary retention, constipation and tachycardia.
