ABSTRACT

For each of the following scenarios, select the most appropriate cause of the speech disturbance. Each option may be used once, more than once or not at all.

1. A 29-year-old man is brought to the emergency department after being involved in a fight. He is clearly under the influence of alcohol and is aggressive towards staff. It is difficult to understand what he is saying, as the words are coming out slurred and muddled. He understands what the doctor is saying to him, and provides appropriate answers.
