Values-based practice is an approach that recognizes that the values of both service users

and ourselves are inescapable in health care. Our own personal values, our professional

values and the values of the people we care for are all inextricably involved in every

aspect of our clinical practice and decision-making. Health care professionals therefore

need to develop skills and attitudes which enable them to recognize, work with, and

respond to their own values and those of others.
