ABSTRACT

The modified Monro–Kellie model of factors contributing to intracranial pressure is based on a number of simplifying hypotheses. The skull is a fixed volume box so the intracranial volume is assumed to have a fixed overall value. The modified Monro–Kellie model of factors contributing to intracranial pressure (ICP) is based on a number of simplifying hypotheses. Vomiting is also characteristic of raised ICP. Like the headache, it is typically worse in the morning after lying flat overnight. One diagnostic pitfall is that vomiting can occur in the absence of nausea, and even in the absence of headache. The intracranial space is divided by incomplete partitions formed from folds of dura. The tentorium separates the cerebral hemispheres from the cerebellum, medulla and pons; the falx separates the two cerebral hemispheres. Gliomas are the most common primary brain tumours. As the name implies, they can arise from any of the glial components of the brain: astrocytoma, oligodendroglioma and ependymoma.
