ABSTRACT

Nurses who are monitoring people need specific knowledge and skills – to be able

to select, carry out and interpret physiological measurements and observations, and

act appropriately. In relation to Roach’s six Cs of caring (Roach 2002), explained in

Chapter 1, this comfort measure particularly relates to competence, commitment and

confidence. Competent and confident nurses, who show commitment to monitoring

their patients, comfort the frightened and distressed people they are caring for.
