ABSTRACT

The four major endemic mycoses occur almost exclusively in the western hemisphere. North America is the predominant site for histoplasmosis and blastomycosis. Coccidioidomycosis occurs in North America and to a lesser extent in isolated areas of South America. Paracoccidioidomycosis occurs exclusively in South and Central America. Although histoplasmosis and blastomycosis are occasionally diagnosed on other continents, the major endemic areas for these fungi are in North America.
