ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the development of children’s palliative care and outlines a number of definitions and concepts surrounding palliative care in general. The criteria used to classify palliative care in children are explored. The underpinning principles for children’s palliative care are explained in order to facilitate an understanding of models of service delivery and promote the use of palliative care pathways.
