ABSTRACT
In the following sections, constant continuous positive airway pressure delivered non-invasively is referred to as CPAP, and non-invasive intermittent positive pressure ventilation with or without positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) is referred to as NIPPV (non-invasive positive pressure ventilation). The term NIV is considered to include either CPAP or NIPPV.
