Conversely, the number of prospective and controlled clinical trials comparing NIPPV with standard treatments or conventional ventilation in paediatric patients is still extre mely low, but several case series, including a large single-centre study6 and a recent randomized controlled trial (RCT) in children with acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure, strongly support the use of NIPPV in children with ARF.7
