ABSTRACT

Any ventilator can be attached to a mask or other interface for non-invasive ventilation (NIV), but it is desirable to use one designed specifically for NIV (Box 2.1).1,2 In this chapter, features of ventilators for NIV will be described. Because there are many different ventilators designed specifically, or in part, for NIV, and because the technical features of these ventilators are constantly changing, a generic approach will be presented.
