ABSTRACT

Introduction Over the last few years, there have been significant developments in data storage and delivery. Innovations in information technology (IT), the ever-increasing power of microprocessors and improved connection to the internet with a wide range of devices have not only transformed the way we read news, watch videos, listen to music and seek information, but have also influenced storage and sharing of information. While the general trend is one of increasing reliance on electronic gadgets and digital documents, there is an obvious over-reliance on paper in healthcare systems around the globe. The reluctance of healthcare professionals to use information systems is a worldwide issue with health services being traditionally slow to adapt to such changes.1
