ABSTRACT
The ependymal group of tumors was first described by Bailey (1924). He was also able to distinguish ependymoma from malignant ependymoma, which he regarded as arising from ependymoblasts. Other variants were subsequently recognized by Kernohan (Kernohan and Flecher-Kernohan, 1935) while the historical aspects of ependymal tumors were reviewed by Schiffer (1997).
