ABSTRACT

Hemangiopericytoma is a vascular neoplasm first described by Stout and Murray in 1942 as a tumor derived from the pericyte, a cell described by Zimmerman (1923) and earlier by Rouget (1873). This cell is found adjacent to vessels and is believed to play a role in contraction of vessels. In recent years the concept of hemangiopericytoma has been challenged (Fletcher, 1994).
