Triage does not necessarily mean treating the most seriously injured first. They may have to be left to die, because devoting all your resources to a small number of them might result in a far greater loss of life amongst the many for whom quick and simple interventions could be life-saving. Triage is carried out simultaneously with simple life-saving procedures which should not be allowed to delay the process of triage.
