ABSTRACT

An appropriate anesthetic circuit for use in infants needs to be light, have minimal resistance and dead space, allow for warming and humidification of inspired gases and be adaptable to spontaneous, assisted or controlled ventilation. The most widely used is the T-piece system designed by Philip Ayre3 and later modified by Rees4 (Fig. 6.1). Connectors and tubes should also offer minimal flow resistance and dead space.
