ABSTRACT
Tongue enlargement or macroglossia is one of the few disease processes to affect this structure and is defined as a resting tongue which protrudes beyond the teeth, or in the case of the neonate, the alveolar ridge.1 Pseudomacroglossia arises when the tongue itself is normal, but relative protrusion occurs because of a small mandible, as seen in Down’s syndrome and Pierre Robin syndrome.2
