ABSTRACT

It is not the purpose of the current review to describe in detail the basic principles of magnetic resonance. Rather, I will attempt to illustrate the non-invasive nature of magnetic resonance spectroscopy and its potential for studies of brain metabolism. For readers interested in a detailed description of magnetic resonance theory, there are a number of excellent articles available (Gadian, 1982; Iles et al., 1982; Gordon, 1985).
