ABSTRACT
Negligent behavior that produces harm to a person is termed a ‘tort’ (Slovenko 1973). Society, represented by a judge or jury, may award the injured party money in an effort to make him or her whole. When psychiatric injuries are alleged, the forensic examiner must determine whether the injury claimed is genuine rather than malingered, and specify the nature, extent, and prognosis of any harm suffered.
