ABSTRACT
Communication, with both children and their parents, forms an essential component of paediatric surgical practice. It is assessed formally in higher surgical exams, including the intercollegiate Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) examination in the UK. This chapter illustrates why it is so important to communicate effectively and describes some of the problems that may be encountered.
