ABSTRACT

Gastro-oesophageal reflux (GOR) is frequent in infancy and childhood. It often has a benign clinical course with a spontaneous tendency to disappear with the passage of time. However, it can also be a severe and even lethal condition requiring urgent treatment. In these cases, surgery is often required; this, and the frequent association of GOR with other surgical conditions and malformations, makes the close involvement of paediatric surgeons in the decisionmaking process highly desirable.
