ABSTRACT
The ureteric bud grows into a mass of undifferentiated mesodermal cells, the metanephric blastema, on the posterior abdominal wall of the fetus. This is the caudal part of the nephrogenic cord, which from its cranial end had earlier developed successively into the pronephros and mesonephros, both drained by the mesonephric duct.
