ABSTRACT

The mapping of the entire human genome is now complete, and it is expected that the use of recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) technology, antisense agents and transgenic techniques will lead to a better understanding of the genetic control of development and of the pathogenesis of many congenital anomalies. However, we must not lose

sight of mechanisms not prescribed in the genes that influence development and play a role in teratology.
