ABSTRACT

Why is there a place for a special chapter on paediatric anatomy? The anatomy of the child is essentially the same as that of an adult, but growth affects relative sizes and relations of structures change (Tanner 1978). Similar changes are seen in the embryo, but to a greater extent. The need is not simply to record the appropriate smaller sizes for tubes for use in children, such as endotracheal tubes, cystoscopes and endoscopes, but also to record the different positions and relations of structures.
