ABSTRACT
It is in this climate of change and uncertainty that this chapter will critically examine the nature of advanced nursing practice both in the broad nursing context and within the specific of children and young people’s nursing. It will trace the historical development of the concept and innovation of advanced nursing practice and discuss how this is currently defined and regulated. Differing levels of practice and the resultant array of roles that have emerged will also be considered and contrasted alongside the current driving policies and strategies.
