ABSTRACT

STRANGULATED INGUINAL HERNIA Mr Hicks is a 75-year-old gentleman who lives in a residential home. His GP has referred him to A&E for a swelling in his groin that is associated with pain and vomiting. As the surgical PRHO, you have been asked to clerk him. Please take a focused history and form an immediate management plan. His observations are as follows: pulse rate 90 bpm, blood pressure 157/95 mmHg, oxygen saturation 97 per cent in room air, respiratory rate 18 breaths/min, temperature 38.5 °C.
