ABSTRACT

KEY This station tests your ability to understand and interpret research published in medical journals, and to critically evaluate and appropriately apply it to the care of patients either at an individual or population-wide level; it tests your ability to practise evidencebased health care. These sorts of stations are likely to be a structured viva format, which means that you will have some time to evaluate and consider a paper, either in its full or summary form, before being asked questions on it by one or two examiners. Evidencedbased health care stations can be combined with testing one of the other professional competencies, and so you may expect these stations to be based on papers considering health promotion areas, for example smoking, or areas where there may be ethical dilemmas, such as prenatal screening.
