ABSTRACT

The shoulder is a complex joint capable of a great range of movements. It’s position close to the upper torso can make the acquisition of a second projection, perpendicular to the first, quite problematic, particularly in trauma where the patient has a limited range of movement. This has led to the development of a wide range of projections, which is reflected by the addition of a column in the recommended projections section of this chapter. The choice of the second projection in any given circumstance will be dictated by the capability of the patient and local protocols within the imaging department concerned.
