ABSTRACT
Introduction The first part of this chapter focuses on the key principles of what it means to be a professional. An overview of the key points in the professional evolution of nursing is provided, along with some comparisons with the growth of midwifery as a profession. The chapter explores the values and principles that surround the context of nursing as a profession and the nurse as a professional.
