ABSTRACT

Practising as an orthopaedic surgeon puts you at risk for burnout. Working as a doctor in any specialty attracts more than the average amount of work-related stress, and orthopaedic surgeons have a specific group of pressures that can be added to these. This chapter will describe the pressures inherent in orthopaedic surgical practice and the signs and symptoms of burnout. Evidence-based strategies for burnout prevention will follow.
