ABSTRACT

The consideration of child protection in adolescent forensic psychiatric practice is complex. Young people referred for assessment and treatment are at the confluence of so many systems, not only their family and social context, but often police services who have investigated criminal actions. Youth Offending Teams (YOTs) may be involved as a result. Social services teams may also be involved as often these are young people who may have given rise to earlier concerns, and there has often been extensive contact with families. Other community agencies may be involved playing a role in the young person’s life, or may represent those individuals, families and communities against whom a young person may have offended against.
