Biliary tract

Tumours of the biliary tract can be divided into those of the intra-hepatic bile ducts, extra-hepatic bile ducts and gall bladder. Intra-hepatic bile duct tumours have been described in Chapter 22, but a brief review is included here. For most epidemiological studies, the hilar cholangiocarcinomas (which are anatomically extra-hepatic) are considered, perhaps mistakenly, as intra-hepatic.
