ABSTRACT

It appears strange that I should start this chapter by stating that the title is incorrect. Since the last edition of this text there have been a plethora of articles on evidence-based practice or its many derivatives (Evidencebased nursing, Evidence-based medicine, Evidence-based healthcare, etc.). However, the word ‘based’ implies an almost unquestioning belief in evidence. From my perspective, the term ‘Evidence-informed practice’ is probably more accurate. Nonetheless, evidence-based practice is a universal label and will be used here.
