ABSTRACT
Psychiatric assessment, or diagnosis, is essentially an attempt to attribute a person’s suffering to an underlying illness, and thereby identify appropriate treatment. Insofar as psychiatric nurses assist psychiatry, nursing assessment may be understood as a part of this diagnostic process.1
