ABSTRACT
Bipolar disorder is usually ranked, along with schizophrenia, as a serious mental illness.1 Although nurses’ primary responsibility is neither to diagnose nor prescribe treatment, they do have a role in the delivery of treatment regimes and need to understand the diagnosis and medical responses to bipolar disorder.
