ABSTRACT

This chapter offers the reader an introduction to the problems facing homeless people and to the practice implications for psychiatric-mental health nurses (PMHNs). We will explore who the homeless are and then consider the special challenges faced by different health and social care practitioners in trying to meet their needs. Most of the issues and related nursing approaches outlined here will have a UK focus, but will be applicable to the many other mental health service users who are insecurely housed, living in poverty and facing restricted access to health care in other countries.
