ABSTRACT

When a young person is found to be delinquent or in need of supervision by a juvenile court judge, a placement decision must be made. Dispositional alternatives include sending the juvenile home or to foster care, forestry camps, group homes, reception centers, boot camps, and training schools. The quality of life and opportunities provided vary enormously depending on placement. In some states, training schools are simply referred to as “juvenile prisons” (Housewright, 2000).
