ABSTRACT

In comparison to research on the residents of juvenile institutions, little has been conducted on the staff. Extant literature on staff focuses on such areas as the treatment role (e.g., Grissom and Dubnov, 1989), strategies of maintaining control over youth (e.g., Polsky, 1977), and staff attitudes and perceptions and corresponding organizational variables (e.g., Gordon, 1999; Minor et al., 2004; Wells et al., 2000). Two key and interrelated variables in the latter area include staff job satisfaction and their level of commitment to the organization for which they work.
