History of the Treatment of and Attitudes toward Children

Age was not a major consideration in determining punishment for crime. Neither was it considered in determining who should be protected from abuse. Today, we need to ask ourselves two interrelated questions:

1. At what point should we, the nation-state, intervene in the life of a child to improve his or her lot in life?
