ABSTRACT

In highly restricted work areas, where sensitive compartmented information (SCI) may be stored, there will be a requirement to construct a secured area. These storage areas may consist of government sensitive compartmented information facilities (SCIF) and special access programs (SAP) or closed areas where there will be a requirement to increase the security blanket to ensure stricter access to these areas. The physical security protection for a SCIF had been outlined in DCID 6/9, but has been updated to the Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 705, which is the requirement for governmental physical security standards. ICD 705-1 is the established procedure for the construction and protection of government facilities for storing, processing, and discussing SCI, which requires extraordinary security safeguards and is intended to prevent any visual, acoustical, technical, and physical access by unauthorized persons.
