ABSTRACT

Forensic dentistry is a noble vocation, an intellectual challenge, and a gratifying way to serve dentistry and the public. However, forensic dentistry may not be a viable career choice. Presently, there are very few full-time civilian forensic dentists in the United States. Most forensic odontologists work at their regular jobs and only practice forensic dentistry when special situations or cases occur. It is sometimes referred to as an “expensive hobby” because more time and money is spent on education and equipment than is generated as income.
